I had some strawberries that I had picked up on Sunday that no one was eating because they tasted like Strawberry Warheads. I knew if I didn’t act soon, the dish of strawberries was going to turn in to a dish of penicillin, so I decided to make vegan strawberry shortcake.

I got the recipe here (basically the first recipe that shows up on Google), swapping out the soy milk for almond milk since too much soy gives me a tummy ache. I did however use Tofutti sour cream mixed with a little vanilla and powdered sugar as the whipped topping. For the strawberries, I added two teaspoons of powdered sugar and a sprinkling of cardamom powder, covered them with plastic wrap and let them chill in the fridge until the sugar and cardamom had completely dissolved in to the strawberries. I did eff up a little when I read the instructions as “preheat at 205º,” not realizing that if I read further it would have said “preheat at 205º C, 401º F.” After realizing my mistake, and turning up the oven to the proper temperature, the shortcakes wound up drying out a little and having the consistency of tea biscuits. I’m sure next time, they’ll be nice and fluffy Smothered in cream and strawberries, they both looked and tasted amazing:

These would probably taste great simply drizzled in melted chocolate, or dunked in almond milk for breakfast

I don’t like using head-to-toe flash for portfolio websites. Parts of the site, yes (like the galleries) but when it’s the entire site it always makes for a crazy laggy mess. I have a decent amount of RAM, so when your site takes five minutes to load because you want me to look at some slideshow you put together with Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” as the background music that I can’t shut off… I am picturing running you over with a herd of incontinent goats. Social networking sites have programmed people to click through entire galleries unless something makes them stop and stare. They’re not going to sit through a slideshow. Sure my right wrist locks up and I have to tape it up again, and my brain is fried from staring at html codes, but in six months I’ll probably do it all over again /rant

Anyway, please go look!

Finished B’s hat. Wasn’t following any particular pattern, but I tried to make it smaller than the previous one, since I made the other one bigger to accommodate stuffing my hair in to it . It’s the kind of hat you get from a one-eyed aunt that lives in Kansas and always smells like cigars and kitty litter. Or something you pick up as “unique DIY” on etsy.com for $75, and when you get it it’s covered in cat hair
